A character's movement speed can be increased or reduced by a number of different skills and conditions. The default movement speed of a character moving forward corresponds to 288 game units per second.

Stacking

Speed boosts or snares stack multiplicatively, meaning that you can multiply their effects to obtain the final speed. Movement speed cannot exceed +34% (1.340 speed) unless as a result of a single skill such as Dash, Pious Haste or Burning Speed. Movement Speed cannot be reduced below -50% (0.5 speed), unless as a result of a single effect, such as Mind Freeze. Note that the sideways or backwards movement penalty is applied after the cap. Many NPCs (particularly Hard Mode enemies) have an inherent speed modifier, applied after the cap.

Effects that reduce speed by more than 50% (typically Water Magic hexes) also nullify all speed boosts. For example, if you are hexed with Mind Freeze, you will move at 10% speed, even if you use a BU, rainbow rocks, a cupcake, and Dash.

Some Examples

UW Example 1:

As T2 in UWSC, or even T1 in lowman UWSC, you'll need to counter the effect of Cripple. One method is to use Rainbow Rocks (the other method is to just bring the skill IAU). You should already have the effects of Essence of Celerity from the conset. And should have the effects of Birthday Cupcake (a required pcon). Your final speed will thus be at the cap of 1.34

Cripple*BU*Cupcake*Red*Blue*Green = .5*1.2*1.25*1.33*1.25*1.15=1.43390625, cap is 1.34

UW Example 2:

As T2 in UWSC, or even T3/T4 in lowman UWSC, you may want to counter the effects of Tar in The Spawning Pools. This can be done by using a Red Rock Candy (you can get away with using a blue, or none at all, if you want). You should already have the effects of Essence of Celerity from the conset. And should have the effects of Birthday Cupcake (a required pcon).

If used a red, your final speed will be at the 1.34 cap: 0.7*1.2*1.25*1.33=1.3965, cap is 1.34

If used a blue, your final speed will be at the 1.3125: 0.7*1.2*1.25*1.25=1.3125

If only Essence of Celerity and Cupcake is used against Tar, you'll be at 1.05 speed: 0.7*1.2*1.25=1.05
