Tormentor enemies are found all around the Gloom area of DoA, and in the trench area of Veil. Smothering Tendrils also spawn at the Dreadspawn Maw, and Torment Claws spawn when each of these is killed. The ones in the trenches have a chance to drop Stygian Gemstones; the rest drop Torment Gemstones.

Call to the Torment
Call to the Torment, often referred to as calling, duping, or making babies is a skill used by almost all Tormentors. The skill activates instantly, and for 5 seconds, the Tormentor does not move, attack, or use skills, and takes double damage. At the end of the 5 seconds, a new copy of the Tormentor is spawned at its exact location, with full health.
There are some rules governing whether or not a Tormentor will Call:
- They have to be in aggro/combat with something (yourself/stone/NPC/etc). Note that aggro conditions include: having chain/corpse/part of a group aggro on anything that might not necessarily be in your own aggro range.
- They have to be under 50% (539 or less) health.
- The Tormentor is not in "CoT aggro" with any mobs that are currently duping. CoT aggro range is approximately 750-850 gwinches and acts similarly to aggro mechanics - except it's with other Tormentors. This means there is chain/corpse/part of a group aggro for CoT. If there is a Tormentor within CoT range, the game checks if there are any Tormentors duping within that second Tormentor's range, if yes: then the original one does not dupe. If no, then the original one dupes.
- When a Tormentor starts to decide whether or not to dupe, is currently unknown. Possible triggers are updating the Tormentor's position or updating the Tormentor's direction.
- The Tormentor with the lowest Agent ID (the first to spawn into the instance) is much more likely to be the first one to duplicate. The best known guess for how the game determines which Tormentor to dupe is by going from lowest to highest agent ID.
- Certain tormentors only duplicate in certain conditions:
- Water Tormentors only dupe when not settled on anything.
- Torment Claws, Smothering Tendrils, and the Earth and Flesh Tormentor at Deathbringer cannot Call.
