Turtle Trench

Turtle Trench, usually just called "turtle", is a tactic in Veil, used to pop and kill all the enemies in a trench.

Running to the middle of a trench causes a mixed group of melee Stygians to spawn at each end of the trench and run in opposite directions along its length before stopping. Simultaneously, random (Water, Soul, or Mind) Tormentors spawn on the hills overlooking the trench - 2 on the west side for the Gloom trench; 2 on the south side for the monk trench; 2 on the south and 1 on the north for the ele trench; 1 on each side for the mesmer trench; 2 on the east and 1 on the west for the necro trench.

The tactic

1 or more players run down the trench to trigger the pop. They quickly kill the Tormentor at the top or stand on the opposite side to avoid aggro. Meanwhile, 1 or 2 players may aggro the melee foes at each end of the trench, to pull them in faster. Everyone then stacks up together against the wall, with 1 or 2 players stepping out to bodyblock the incoming melee foes. When the enemies arrive, they will ball up neatly enough to be killed with nearby damage.

Usage in meta tactics

This is the standard way to get down the mesmer trench before Clover Pull. It can also be used for the Gloom trench, although Goltway is faster.
